Happiness is a smooth ride home from an amazing weekend at my folks house, new fins in the mail, now three fully operational surfboards, talk of fall surf and this year's hurricane season...
Sadness is the dumb ass TOW TRUCK driver who didn't bother to look where he was turning and ran into me and Felis Femina, once home, walking back from the grocery store across the street. Sadness is stupidity, lacking the decency to even get out of your truck, hitting a person, and then just driving away. Krissy's scream and the crash of the Budweiser 12-pack in my left hand got his attention and he finally stopped the F-350 Super Duty. Definitely struck but still standing, adrenaline rushing, we yelled at the top of our lungs. In seconds he was gone, while we stood for minutes, walked slow. Cooling down eventually with shower and suds and summertime BLTs, we tried to make light of it. "That's a hat trick!", I said, of our third near death car encounter while living together in New York City. My love, more the bowler than the hockey player, was on the same wavelength, and shortly followed with a loud "Turkey!" We laughed, finished washing the grill grease off our arms and clinked "cheers" with our ice waters and Advil. For the inside scoop on this bad inside joke, check this out.
For the record no Budweisers were harmed in this dangerously and scarily close call, and we are sore but okay. People need to regain common sense in the throws of the 21st Century. Technological blindness (walking Blackberry Blindness, driving a F-350 with a laptop on your lap blindness, etc.) can get you killed, so be careful. It's called "look where you're going", and actually it's not that hard if you try, dumbasses.
